RATINGS CHANGE: Cook Political Report Moves Texas Governor’s Race Towards Gina Hinojosa for the Second Time

Austin, TX – Today, Cook Political Report moved the race for Texas Governor in Gina Hinojosa’s direction for the second time this cycle, as Texans continue to rally behind Hinojosa as her campaign builds momentum across the state. The shift marks the first time Cook has rated the Texas Governor race as lean since Abbott has been in office.

Hinojosa’s people-powered campaign is showing “an organic environmental shift,” and despite attacks from Abbott, she “has responded just as forcibly, hitting Abbott over data centers (an issue where Abbott has shifted […]) and Flock cameras,” according to Cook Political Report’s analysis.

“With just one month until Election Day, this race is closer than ever because Texans are ready for change, and the momentum behind our campaign is real,” said Hinojosa. “My message is resonating because Texans want a governor who will put them first and fight to secure the American Dream by saving our public schools and putting money back in their pockets. Don’t let them tell you it can’t happen in Texas, because it already is.”

The latest ratings change follows back-to-back independent polls showing Hinojosa outperforming Abbott by up to 4 points and “GOP surveys that have shown the contest closing despite Abbott outspending Hinojosa” by 6-to-1 on the airwaves, added Cook’s analysis. This is the first time a Democrat has ever led Abbott in an election year. This announcement comes on the heels of Hinojosa’s best fundraising day to date with more than $700,000 in grassroots contributions on the final day of September. While Hinojosa surges in the polls and crisscrosses the state, Abbott is on the defense, refusing to debate and proving to Texans just how unfit he is to serve as governor.
