But Greg Abbott and establishment politicians have prioritized putting taxpayer money in the pockets of global corporations at the expense of investment in Texans. Whether it’s skyrocketing property taxes, electricity bills, healthcare costs, or the data centers that he’s welcomed into our state, we pay more and get less under Abbott’s leadership. As Governor, Gina will direct the legislature to deliver a bill to her desk to issue one-time $1,500 refund checks to every household in Texas.
Greg Abbott has hoarded $27 billion in taxpayer money into the Rainy Day Fund – money that belongs to Texans – while families struggle to pay their bills. No Texas politician has ever hoarded taxpayer dollars like this – and it’s time Texans get that money back. It is fiscally irresponsible for the government – that money should be working in our economy.
The Rainy Day fund needs about a $10 billion balance to be fiscally responsible according to experts, so Gina will direct the legislature to return the other $17 billion to Texas families in the form of a $1,500 refund – because Gina knows your money should work for you, not sit idle in Austin.
As Governor, Gina will ban predatory surveillance pricing and fight to ensure that grocery prices reflect actual market costs, not price gouging designed to squeeze more money from working Texans. She’ll ensure that major corporations can’t swap shelf prices because they know when you’ll pay more.
Grocery prices are stretching Texas families, and the last thing we need is corporations using algorithms to charge people different prices for the same food. Big retailers are tracking what you buy, when you buy it, and how much you’re willing to pay, then using that information to raise prices on working people.
As Governor, Gina will direct the Public Utility Commission to freeze the rates residential customers pay until we have laws to ensure that data centers and other high-load users pay for themselves. To bring down your electricity bill long term, Gina plans to ensure that costs from rapid infrastructure development driven by data centers and industry are paid by the corporations and billionaires that drive those costs. We know that the state needs improved grid reliability and better ways to get wind, solar, and other clean and affordable energy onto the grid, but we cannot simply trample on the rights of property owners to build 765kV transmission lines in record time because Oil and Gas and other high-load users demand it. Gina wants to involve stakeholders, use least harm routes, and go through proper notice and comment timelines.
Texans are paying about $40 more a month on electricity bills after Greg Abbott let gas companies get away with making billions during Winter Storm Uri and we will be paying for that for decades to come. Now, while Texans have more residents disconnected from electricity than any other state, he’s letting global corporations use foreign labor to build data centers in our backyards and hooking them into the grid through expedited approval processes. Because Abbott has been in charge for so long, the agency and panels designed to protect consumers is full of Abbott appointees – there are no checks and balances in place when Greg Abbott grants sweetheart deals to his campaign donors. Texans deserve better
As Governor, Gina will preserve homeownership for Texans by stopping private equity firms from buying up housing.
Homeownership is a tenet of the American Dream, and it’s slipping away from Texas families. Across the state, corporate investors are buying up single-family homes, driving up prices and squeezing out first-time homebuyers. At the same time, rent has surged with little accountability for landlords using AI algorithms to price-gouge renters. Gina is committed to holding bad actors accountable for bad behavior.
Since 2017, Gina has fought to rein in multinational corporations and predatory landlords trying to raise rental rates without notice or during the application process. In 2025, she authored a bill to prevent institutional investors from snapping up more than 10 single-family homes in the middle of a state housing shortage.
As Governor, Gina will fight to make sure every Texas child has quality healthcare, hold profiteering healthcare companies accountable by banning bad-faith denials, and strengthen our rural hospital system so rural Texans can get the care they need fast.
Texas has the highest uninsured rate and the highest number of uninsured children in the country.
Throughout her career, Gina increased access to quality, affordable healthcare, including providing free transportation to and from appointments at regional hospitals across Texas, requiring plans cover a year’s supply of contraception in one visit, and increasing accountability for insurance companies.
