We need an immediate moratorium on data centers to last until the legislature can meet to put in place real protections so Texans can have a seat at the table to decide if and how data centers come into their communities. Greg Abbott is the sole person who can fix the mess he made.
He should issue an Executive Order effective immediately putting a moratorium on new data centers and then he should call a special session today to end the giant tax giveaways he signed into law and protect Texans.
Greg Abbott invited data centers into Texas when he signed into law House Bill 2712 in 2015 to give hyperscale data centers 20-year tax breaks.
A temporary moratorium is a scam because Abbott will likely lift it on November 4th, right after the election. The only way Texans are protected is when real laws are passed.
To show good faith after inviting data centers to Texas, Abbott must call a special session now. Otherwise, no one believes the arsonist will put out the fire.
