ICYMI: Hinojosa, Dallas Residents Highlight Continued Data Center Takeover Amid Abbott’s Data Center Theatrics

Austin, TX – Yesterday, Democratic nominee for Texas Governor Gina Hinojosa held a press conference in Dallas alongside locals fighting data centers across the city. The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is the number one data center market in the world, with the highest concentration of data centers in Texas, including 132 operational, under construction, or planned in Dallas County alone.

At the press conference, Hinojosa called out Abbott’s data center theatrics as nothing more than a lame campaign promise, as nothing has changed for Texans suffering the consequences of unfettered data centers coming into their communities.

“Greg Abbott’s moratorium on data centers is just words,” said Hinojosa. “We still have Texans who are against big economic powers in our communities that are having to fend for themselves because Greg Abbott invited the data centers into Texas with the richest tax breaks in the country.”

“The [Danik data center] went online December 19, 2025, the same day that we were giving out Toys for Tots in our neighborhood,” said Claudia Fowler, a Joppa resident fighting the Danik data center, which got approval from the city and state by disguising its project as “utility company/utility use.” Fowler added, “Our question since day one is: ‘When are we going to be included in the conversation on data centers?’”

Unlike Abbott, Hinojosa is fighting to protect all Texans. In July, she called on Greg Abbott to call a special session to create real laws that protect Texans and give them a seat at the table to decide if and how data centers come into their communities. An overwhelming number of voters don’t support data centers in their communities, and they know Abbott’s election-year lies and hypocrisy are just more false promises. Texans are ready for change, which is why multiple recent independent polls in the last month show Hinojosa beating Abbott. Voters are sick of Abbott letting data centers harm their communities, and they’ll make that clear at the ballot box this November.
