NEW: Hinojosa Campaign Proposes Terms for October 15th Debate with Governor Abbott
Austin, TX – Yesterday, Democratic nominee for Texas Governor Gina Hinojosa sent Greg Abbott a memorandum proposing terms and conditions for a debate on October 15th at 10:00am CT outside the Governor’s Mansion. Hinojosa has accepted four separate invitations to debate – including an NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations in Texas and Hearst Newspapers in Texas debate planned for the same day – but Abbott has ignored all four. With early voting less than a week away, Hinojosa has offered to go directly to the Governor’s Mansion in a good-faith effort to make it as convenient as possible for Governor Abbott to participate in a debate.
“I am calling on Greg Abbott to debate me at the Governor’s Mansion,” Hinojosa said. “Texans deserve to hear a plan for Texas where we secure the American Dream by saving our public schools and putting money into people’s pockets. They deserve to believe in a Texas that rewards hard work and takes care of its people. I welcome Abbott to have a real debate about who has a stronger plan for the future of our great state.”
The proposed terms are designed to allow for a fair and substantive debate that gives Texas voters an opportunity to hear directly from both candidates on important issues before voting begins.
