MYTH VS. FACT: Abbott Lies About Data Centers, Ignores Voters’ Concerns About Rising Prices
Defensive Abbott doubles down on $2 gas by the end of the summer and rails against property taxes he raised
Austin, TX – On ABC’s This Week, Greg Abbott was stuck on the defensive when confronted with his failed record as governor. For the entire interview, Abbott perpetuated his campaign-year lies about data centers and the affordability crisis – and failed to give straight answers about his blatant hypocrisy.
ABBOTT’S MYTH: Data centers “had not been working in collaboration with the state” and “don’t need to get approval from the State of Texas.”
FACT: Greg Abbott welcomed data centers to Texas with the biggest tax break in the country, and as recently as last November vowed to turn Texas into the “epicenter” of AI data center development.
ABBOTT’S MYTH: Gas prices “will be below $2 before the end of summer.”
FACT: The average price of gas in Texas is $3.60, and despite having the power to pause the state gas tax, Abbott has refused.
ABBOTT’S MYTH: “I have set guidelines and guardrails that all data centers have to comply with.” Data center standards “are now being universally applied by all the data centers in the state of Texas.”
FACT: There are no laws or regulations requiring data centers to do anything to protect Texans. All proposed data centers in Texas are expected to be approved by Abbott’s government by December.
ABBOTT’S MYTH: “I have the most robust campaign platform to provide affordability to people in the state of Texas.”
FACT: In the 12 years that Greg Abbott has been governor, property taxes have skyrocketed, Texas has the most uninsured people, the most uninsured children, the most people being disconnected from their electricity, and the most people filing for bankruptcy compared to every other state. Experts have said Abbott’s new property tax plan will bankrupt the state.
ABBOTT’S MYTH: “What matters in elections is November.”
FACT: Actually, this one is true! Texans have made it clear that they are ready for change and will vote for Gina Hinojosa this November.
The appearance on ABC proved catastrophic for Greg Abbott, who is now in the most difficult reelection battle of his career. As multiple national outlets shift the race’s rating to the left, polling shows that Gina Hinojosa has surged to within a single percentage point. Despite his efforts to dismiss the struggles and concerns of everyday Texans, voters will hold him accountable at the ballot box this November.
