RATINGS CHANGE: Cook Political Report Shifts Texas Governor’s Race Towards Gina Hinojosa
Austin, TX – Today, Cook Political Report moved the race for Texas Governor in Gina Hinojosa’s direction as momentum builds firmly behind her campaign – the third ratings change towards Democrats in recent weeks following Inside Elections and Fox News.
Cook Political pointed to Abbott’s “recent shift on data centers,” proving he is “not immune to the political environment” and “vulnerable on school vouchers and the aggressive redistricting plan he pushed through the legislature.” Hinojosa, in contrast, “has the ability to uniquely appeal to Latino voters, and she’s from the politically important Rio Grande Valley.”
The move also follows six polls in three weeks showing the race in a virtual tie, including public polls from Texas Public Opinion Research, Fox News, and Texas A&M/ReconMR/Siena. Since launching, Hinojosa has closed the gap from an 8-point race to a 1-point race as she gains name ID, while Abbott’s corruption and hypocrisy push him increasingly underwater.
“For over a decade, Greg Abbott has prioritized his billionaire donors over working Texans – and this November, we vote for change,” said Hinojosa. “Our momentum is building because Texans are excited about our plan to secure the American Dream by saving public schools and putting money in the pockets of Texans. We will finally end Abbott’s years of corruption. From now until Election Day, we’ll be crisscrossing the state, winning hearts and minds to bring home a win for the people of Texas in November.”
