TIED IN TEXAS: New Public Poll Shows Hinojosa and Abbott Tied in Governor’s Race
Poll marks the first time a Democratic challenger has ever tied with Abbott as Hinojosa surges with key constituencies needed to win
AUSTIN, TX – A new N+ Univision/YouGov poll shows the race for Texas Governor is tied at 47-47%, as Gina Hinojosa continues to gain ground on Governor Abbott despite being outspent ten to one. The new poll follows seven consecutive polls showing the race in a statistical tie, reflecting Hinojosa’s momentum as she travels the state, connecting with Texas voters across the aisle who are ready for change.
Key Findings:
- Gina Hinojosa and Greg Abbott are in a dead heat at 47-47 – putting Abbott in the political fight of his life, without a record to run on.
- Hinojosa has a +13 favorability rating, while Abbott is underwater by -3 points. Polling consistently shows that when voters get to know Hinojosa, they like her.
- Gina is leading Latino voters by 12 points, 54-42, a key constituency needed to win. Latino voters also report being more enthusiastic and more likely to vote for Democrats.
- Gina is also up 19 points with Independents, up 20 points with moderates, and up 9 points with both conservatives and former 2024 Trump voters. She is even getting 5% of voters still approving of the Trump administration.
- While Abbott tries to distract with culture wars, jobs and the cost of living are by far the most important issues for Texas voters. Corruption is the next top issue, which Hinojosa has been running on.
“We’re building real momentum in this race because Texans want change. I am running to secure the American Dream in Texas by saving our public schools and putting money in your pocket with an economy built for the people, not billionaires,” Hinojosa said. “Greg Abbott is running to fix the problems he created. For 12 years, working Texans have suffered from Abbott’s record of putting his billionaire donors before the rest of us. In November, we will finally end Abbott’s years of corruption and bring home a win for the people of Texas in November.”
