CLOSING THE GAP: New Public Poll Shows Hinojosa Has Shrunk Abbott’s Once Double Digit Lead To A Virtual Tie
Austin, TX – A new poll from Overton Insights and the Texas Public Policy Foundation shows Gina Hinojosa within one point of incumbent Greg Abbott – 46% to 47% – inside the margin of error. Hinojosa continues winning with all the key groups needed for victory, while Abbott is hemorrhaging support with key groups, from Latino voters to Independents and Republicans.
“Our campaign is only getting stronger as more voters get to know me. I am running to secure the American Dream in Texas by saving our public schools and putting money in your pocket with an economy built for the people, not billionaires,” Hinojosa said. “Greg Abbott is asking for four more years to fix the problems he built. He took a billion dollars out of our public schools, skyrocketed the cost of everything, let data centers take our water and our power without paying their own way, and put cameras up to watch Texans instead of watching the donors who are picking their pockets. Twelve years of corrupt deals, and Texans paid for every one of them. That ends in November when we defeat Greg Abbott.”
- The race has tightened to a virtual tie, at 47% to 46% – within the 2.9% margin of error, demonstrating Abbott’s inability to consolidate his base while Hinojosa continues to appeal to voters across the aisle.
- Hinojosa leads with all the groups needed to win: Moderates +53, Black voters +75, Latino voters +30, and is even consolidating support from very conservative voters at 11.6% and Republican primary voters at 17.1%.
- Even after Abbott’s flip-flop on data centers, 54% of respondents and 69% of Independents still oppose their takeover of Texas communities.
- After Abbott spent $26 million to bring over 10,000 Flock cameras to Texas, 72% of Texans are against Flock cameras.
- Abbott is in the weakest position of his career, while Hinojosa surges in poll after poll.
This new poll follows 6 polls in the last month that show Hinojosa decimating Abbott’s lead, bringing a 10-point race down to a virtual tie. The swing shows that Hinojosa’s messaging is resonating with voters all over the state while Abbott continues to run a flailing campaign.
Instead of making life affordable for Texans, Abbott instead finally announced plans to tackle affordability after 12 years in office and wasting $10 million of the $67 million he has pledged to spend this cycle on an ad focusing on culture wars. No matter how much he spends from now until Election Day, nothing can change Abbott’s 12 year record to move the needle back in his direction.
