Tax Day: Texans Are Paying More Than Ever Thanks to the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax
Austin, TX — Today, as millions of working families file their taxes, Texans should know that everyday, they are paying a hidden price, the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax.
“Texans are working more and getting less than ever thanks to the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax,” said Gina Hinojosa. “For twelve years, Abbott has been taking our hard earned tax dollars and handing out sweetheart deals, no-bid contracts, and huge tax breaks to his billionaire donors. As governor, I’ll put an end to the corruption that’s kept Texans struggling and put money back in the pockets of working families. Texans deserve a governor who works as hard as they do.”
The Greg Abbott Corruption Tax in action:
- In our schools: Abbott’s $10 billion school voucher scheme takes money out of our neighborhood public schools and diverts public tax dollars to unaccountable private vendors.
- On our electric bills: After Winter Storm Uri, Abbott let the energy companies that bankrolled his campaigns get rich off of Texans. We are still paying around $40 on our electric bills because Abbott put his donors first.
- At the tap: In Corpus Christi, Greg Abbott greased the wheels to allow his industry donors to drain the city dry and then tried to bully the city into a billion-dollar bailout for his insiders. Now, the citizens of Corpus Christi are being told to ration and asked to foot the bill for global corporations to be able to guzzle more water.
- In our communities: Greg Abbott got tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from the private prison companies that run child detention centers. Abbott has deployed the Texas National Guard to work at these ICE detention facilities, forcing Texas taxpayers to subsidize operations that enrich his donors.
