NEW: Hinojosa Calls for Release of Greg Abbott’s Correspondence with Elon Musk
Austin, TX – Today, Democratic nominee for Texas Governor and State Representative Gina Hinojosa filed a public information request for inspection of all documents exchanged between Greg Abbott’s office and Elon Musk and his companies, including the emails provided to the Texas Newsroom, which Abbott blocked the release of and then redacted because they were too “intimate and embarrassing” to be made public.
Musk, the world’s only trillionaire, has received millions of dollars in grants through his various companies in Texas, including the Governor’s office personally calling the Texas Broadband Office to award Musk’s Starlink $110 million upfront, instead of the initial 10%. Musk’s SpaceX also received a $30 million state grant, and a $1.66 billion JETI tax break to build his Terafab semiconductor factory shortly after Musk donated $500,000 to Abbott’s reelection campaign this year.
“In light of the growing power of tech CEOs in Texas and the close working relationship between government and the corporate tech industry, transparency is essential for accountability,” Hinojosa said. “I am seeking all documents provided to the Texas Newsroom that Abbott blocked the release of and then redacted because they are too ‘intimate and embarrassing’ to make public.”
Hinojosa’s official letter requests correspondence or communications including but not limited to: tax incentives and grants, broadband Internet deployment, public beach access, and data center development.
