RECAP: Gina Hinojosa Connects With Killeen Community, Outlining Her Vision for Change as Governor
Hinojosa: “My priority when I am governor is to deliver relief for Texans. The government is broken. It is right now more of a burden than a help for people.”
Killeen, TX – Last Friday, Democratic nominee for Texas Governor Gina Hinojosa visited Killeen to connect with residents about the issues impacting their community, including public schools, housing, and the local economy. While in town, she worked alongside a local business owner before hosting a roundtable with Black leaders from across Bell County.
As Hinojosa travels across Texas, working people have made it clear: they are tired of rising costs, the data center madness, and feeling neglected by the Austin politicians.
“The reason we pay more and we get less is because we are all paying the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax,” said Hinojosa. “He took a billion dollars out of our neighborhood schools, and now schools are shutting down all over this state and in Killeen in a big way.”

Hinojosa kicked off her visit at Wycked Apples, a family-owned staple in downtown Killeen. Hinojosa made a fresh batch of their signature candy apples and talked with the owners about how soaring costs are squeezing local small businesses.

Hinojosa concluded the afternoon with a Bell County Black Leaders roundtable, where she listened to local leaders discuss the challenges facing their community and outlined her commitment to delivering real relief for their families, including saving Texas public schools and putting money in people’s pockets.

Friday evening, Hinojosa joined James Talarico for a rally, where she fired up the crowd about creating a Texas that works for the people, not billionaires.
“Greg Abbott does not work for us; he works for his billionaire donors, he works for the largest contributors to his campaign – and those are the data centers this year,” said Hinojosa. “People have wised up. That is why all over this state we are hearing from Texans who are desperate for change, and out of six polls in the last three weeks, we are in a virtual tie with Greg Abbott. When I am governor, I will secure the American Dream.”
