STATEMENT: On May Day, Gina Hinojosa Vows to End Abbott’s Years of Putting Billionaire Donors Over Working Texans

Austin, TX – Today, on International Workers Day, Gina Hinojosa released the following statement:

“Texas is a global economic powerhouse, and it’s hardworking Texans who built that power. Whether it’s the nurses pulling double shifts, the teachers grading papers at midnight, or the electricians working to build new infrastructure, Texans deserve a governor who makes their lives easier, not harder.

“For over a decade, Greg Abbott has sold out Texas workers to benefit his billionaire donors. Texans across the state are tired of a corrupt governor who takes money out of their pockets. I’ve spent my career fighting for working Texans. I’ve seen firsthand what happens when labor wins: our middle class wins, our communities thrive, and Texas gets stronger.

“For decades, a good-paying union job was the pathway to the American Dream, but the corruption of Greg Abbott and the donors he works for took that dream from us. As governor, I’ll fight to build a state where Texans can afford to dream again.”

A proud member of CWA, Hinojosa fought tirelessly for workers as a civil rights attorney and as a Texas State Representative. She was the single representative who killed the anti-worker bill to end prevailing wage in Texas by fighting for Davis Bacon and stood on the picket line with Unite Here in 2025. Her endorsements include Texas AFL-CIO COPE, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, Texas American Federation of Teachers, Texas State Teachers Association, LiUNA Southwest Laborers District Council, Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union 286, and more.

Meanwhile, Greg Abbott has spent over a decade helping billionaires get richer while working Texans struggle to make ends meet. This November, Texans have a clear choice to vote for a governor who is on the side of working Texans: Gina Hinojosa.
