STATEMENT: Hinojosa on Supreme Court’s Decision in Louisiana v. Callais

Austin, TX — Gina Hinojosa released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6–3 in Louisiana v. Callais, narrowing Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act:

“Greg Abbott’s corrupt redistricting scheme took the voices of countless Texans and kicked off a nationwide effort to deny Americans their fundamental right to representation. Abbott’s corruption and blind willingness to do Washington’s bidding has put the entire nation at risk. Texans and Americans are fighting back, but today the Supreme Court is trying to give politicians the power to rig our elections for a generation.

“Texas belongs to Texans, not to Greg Abbott, and not to his donors. Every Texan deserves a voice at the ballot box, and as Governor I will fight to protect that right. Abbott started this fight in Texas, and we need to end it in November.”
