STATEMENT: Hinojosa on Abbott’s Data Center Political Theater
Austin, TX – Today, Democratic nominee for Texas Governor Gina Hinojosa released the following statement on Greg Abbott’s new letter to PUC and ERCOT. Last month, Hinojosa called on Greg Abbott to sign an emergency executive order putting a moratorium on data centers until the legislature meets to give Texans a seat at the table.
“So nice to see another strongly worded letter from Abbott after he proudly made Texas the wild west of data centers. Abbott’s call for a ‘pause’ could be for one day – and no one buys it. He’s taken millions from data center CEOs while giving Texans lip service to non-existent restrictions.
“Let’s be very clear about this: Abbott can take action now to end the data center madness. He could issue a moratorium until the legislature meets to put in place real protections for Texans and give them a seat at the table to decide if and how data centers move into their communities.
“I’ve spent months traveling the state hearing firsthand from Texans about how Abbott’s irresponsible fealty to his donors has caused sickness, rising bills, and hurt communities. He’s only writing another letter now because he’s too weak and corrupt to do anything that would hurt his billionaire data-center donors.”
This is the same governor who spent recent months branding Texas the “epicenter” of AI development and championing the industry his giveaway attracted. This is the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax in action: rig the deal for global corporations and his donors, send the bill to Texans, and put his own appointees in charge of the cover story when the public catches on.
