NEW: Two Recent TX Polls Show One Point Race as Voters Get to Know Hinojosa
AUSTIN, TX – A new Texas Pulse poll from the Texas A&M Bush School and ReconMR shows the race for Texas Governor is a statistical tie, with Greg Abbott at 46% and Gina Hinojosa at 45%, inside the margin of error. This is the second recent poll showing a one-point race, following the recent Fox News poll, and marks a 5-point swing in Hinojosa’s direction since the Texas Pulse’s June survey. The movement tracks directly with a rise in Hinojosa’s favorability as more Texans learn who she is: 43% now view her favorably, up from 31% in June.
Key Findings:
- The governor’s race is now a one-point toss-up, 46% to 45%, inside the margin of error. In June, the same Texas Pulse poll had Abbott ahead by 6, a 5-point swing toward Hinojosa in two months as Abbott fails to consolidate a lead against a challenger voters are just meeting.
- Hinojosa’s favorability climbed to 43% favorable, 25% unfavorable, up from 31% favorable, 18% unfavorable in June. The gains track directly with voters learning who she is.
- Name recognition is rising fast: in June, more than half of voters had no opinion of Hinojosa. Today, fewer than one in three do.
- Abbott is underwater on every measure. His favorability sits at 46% favorable, 50% unfavorable, and his job approval has flipped to a negative 47% to 51%, down from a positive 50% to 48% in June. After 12 years in office, more Texans disapprove of Abbott than approve.
