STATEMENT: Hinojosa Slams Abbott’s False Attack Ad As He Continues to Lose Ground in Gov Race

Austin, TX – Today, Democratic Nominee for Texas Governor Gina Hinojosa released the following statement after Abbott’s new ad lying about her record:

“Greg Abbott has to lie about my record because he can’t defend the fact that property taxes have gone up 85% under his 12 years in power. If he were serious about lowering costs for Texas families, he would’ve done it by now. That’s why he’s too afraid to debate me – knows he’ll finally have to answer for selling out Texas to billionaires and big corporations and sticking us with the bill. Texans are ready for change, we have closed the gap with Abbott, and he knows it.”

Abbott is trying to talk out of both sides of his mouth – one day he blames the legislature for rising property taxes in Texas, the next he blames local governments and school districts, all because he wants to distract from his own record. 

Abbott is trying to save his career and is facing his toughest election yet. 10 polls in three weeks showing the race in a virtual tie, including last week’s Siena poll – the first-ever poll showing a Democrat leading Greg Abbott in an election year in his political career. Since launching, Hinojosa has closed the gap from an 8-point race to consistently within the margin of error as Texans get to know her and are behind her.
