STATEMENT: Gina Hinojosa on Greg Abbott Freeing Indicted Fugitive

Austin, TX – Today, Democratic nominee for Texas Governor Gina Hinojosa released the following statement on Greg Abbott providing sanctuary to an indicted fugitive instead of cooperating with extradition laws:

“Abbott is putting Texans in peril by playing politics with public safety and the rule of law. Setting a precedent where a governor refuses to acknowledge extradition orders from another state so that a fugitive charged with a violent felony can stand trial serves up Texas for the same treatment. It creates a permissive precedent for violent offenders to hurt Texans and escape consequences by simply crossing the border into another American state. Texans are tired of this political extremism that puts politics above our safety and expect that the power we entrust to the governor is used judiciously and in our best interest. A governor who abuses that trust does not deserve re-election and certainly does not deserve a fourth term.”
