NEW AD: Gina Hinojosa Shares Motivation to Run for Office

Austin, TX – Today, Democratic nominee for Texas Governor Gina Hinojosa released a new ad, “Her Story,” highlighting her unique path to seeking the governorship. The ad tells the story of her choice to carry a high-risk pregnancy to term and how that loss inspired her to fight for all Texans. The 60-second, seven-figure ad buy is running across Texas markets.

In 2003, Hinojosa and her husband were overjoyed because she was pregnant with their first child. But late in her second trimester, she received devastating news: her pregnancy was non-viable. She was told she had a week to decide whether or not to terminate the pregnancy. After deliberating with her husband, her family, and her priest, Hinojosa made the difficult decision to carry her pregnancy to term. Her daughter didn’t make it.

Now, she is running for governor to fight for every Texas family. For the right to send their kids to good neighborhood schools, for an economy where their kids can afford to stay, where the powerful don’t get to tell the rest of us how to live.

5 years ago, Hinojosa told her story on the state House floor as she fought on behalf of Texas families. This uniquely personal story speaks to the many different struggles Texans take on to build a life of prosperity here at home, and is the foundation of Hinojosa’s campaign to secure the American Dream for Texans.

Transcript:

Hinojosa: 23 years ago, my husband and I were overjoyed, expecting our first until an unimaginable diagnosis. The doctor said, I need you to understand she’s not going to live.

I did understand, but I was making that choice. I chose her. Born shortly after her due date, she didn’t make it. Today we have two sons. But she gave me the strength to fight.

She is why I fight for every Texas family, for their right to send their kids to good neighborhood schools. For an economy where their kids can afford to stay, where the powerful don’t get to tell the rest of us how to live.

Texans are forged by fire and made stronger. We deserve a governor who can take the heat, won’t back down, and will do what’s right for you.

That is my prayer for Texas.
