NEW: Hinojosa Calls for DPS Independent Investigation, Transparency Into ICE Killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo

Austin, TX – Today, Democratic nominee for Texas Governor and State Representative Gina Hinojosa filed a public information request for information on the State’s and Texas Department of Public Safety’s response to the killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by federal officers in Houston.

“Texans deserve answers about the actions of federal government employees on Texas soil and their impact on our public safety,” Hinojosa wrote.

New reporting shows neither Araujo nor his brother was the target of ICE’s operation. The federal agents involved were not wearing body cameras, none of their vehicles were equipped with dashcams, and they were driving unmarked cars.

Hinojosa’s official letter requests correspondence or communications, reports, or recordings, and calls for transparency on whether Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers were present before, during, or after the shooting of Araujo on the morning of July 7.
