STATEMENT: Hinojosa on Texas’ CNBC Ranking Dropping

Austin, TX – Today, Democratic nominee for Texas Governor Gina Hinojosa released the following statement after Texas fell on CNBC’s “America’s Top States for Business” rankings, driven by an “F” quality-of-life grade and “C” grades in cost-of-living and education.

“Everywhere I go, Texans voice the same concerns: costs are rising, neighborhood schools are shuttering their doors, and foreign-owned data centers are encroaching on their communities.

“This ranking change is a direct result of Greg Abbott’s failed policies that put his billionaire donors before working Texans: siphoning $1 billion from Texas’ public schools into an unaccountable voucher program, raising electricity costs for millions of households, and handing data centers the most generous tax dollar giveaway in the country.

“Texas workers put in more hours than the national average and still can’t get ahead, because Abbott isn’t interested in working families; he’s interested in keeping his billionaire donors rich and writing him checks. His trickle-down agenda is selling Texas out to the highest bidder, and we are all paying the price.

“Texas is a world economic powerhouse, and it is the people of Texas who built that power. That’s why my platform is simple: save our schools and put money in your pocket to secure the American Dream. These rankings show how broken government under Greg Abbott really is. That’s why I rolled out $1,500 Corruption Tax refund checks last week – money in your pocket to restore trust and give power back to the people. Abbott may sell us out, but together, Texans can prosper again.”
