Hinojosa Packs Standing-Room-Only Crowd, Hears Directly From Valley Families Left Behind by Abbott
Texas gubernatorial candidate returns to the Valley for “Thank You” Tour, meets with supporters and community leaders across the region
Harlingen, TX — Gina Hinojosa returned to the Rio Grande Valley this week for her “Thank You” Tour, drawing packed rooms in across the region over the holiday weekend as she met with supporters and community leaders who have been left behind by twelve years of Greg Abbott.
“I came home to say thank you, and what I heard back was loud and clear: Valley families are tired of paying more and getting less because of the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax,” said Hinojosa. “I met with healthcare providers that told stories of children suffering because they can’t see a doctor. I heard from parents whose neighborhood schools were shutting down so Abbott could hand public money to his donors. The Valley sent a message in the primary – and in November, we’re going to finish the job.”
The energy was palpable. In Harlingen, hundreds of supporters turned out on a holiday weekend – a show of enthusiasm that reflects the historic margins Hinojosa posted across the Valley in the March primary, winning 70.7% of the vote in Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy counties.
Across every stop, one thing was clear – Abbott has turned his back on the Valley. Texas has the most uninsured children in the nation, and it’s even worse in the Valley. Hinojosa talked to healthcare providers about heartbreaking stories of children unable to get the care they need. Similarly, she heard from people about schools closing while Abbott funnels public money into private voucher schemes for his donors. The Greg Abbott Corruption Tax is at work in South Texas – his donors and allies get taken care of while Valley families pay more and get less.
Hinojosa’s tour took her to events and meetings in Harlingen, Brownsville, McAllen, and communities across the region, where she met with local leaders, greeted supporters, and made clear that her campaign to take on the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax and put more money in the pockets of Texas families is just getting started.
