Hinojosa Announces Rio Grande Valley “Thank You” Tour
Candidate for Texas Governor returns to the Valley after historic primary performance
Austin, TX — Today, Gina Hinojosa announced a Rio Grande Valley “Thank You” Tour, returning to the region where she was born and raised to thank supporters after an historic primary victory that saw record Democratic enthusiasm and overwhelming margins across majority-Latino South Texas.
As gas prices approach 4 dollars per gallon; ICE raids decimate families, communities, and economies; and neighborhood schools continue to close, the tour will take Hinojosa all across the Rio Grande Valley with events and meetings in Harlingen, Brownsville, McAllen, and more. She will meet with local leaders, greet supporters, and talk about taking on the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax that has left hard working Valley families behind. Details on each stop to follow.
“The Valley has been ignored and exploited by Greg Abbott for twelve years with everyone paying more and getting less thanks to the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax,” said Hinojosa. “South Texas just sent him a message at the ballot box. I’m going back to hear from them, thank them, and make clear that this November, we’re going to finish the job.”
Hinojosa won 70.7% of the vote across Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy counties – and 61.7% of the vote in majority-Latino counties statewide. The enthusiasm behind those numbers tells the broader story: In majority-Latino counties, 63% of primary ballots were cast for Democrats, a strong swing from 2024, when 55% of primary ballots in these same counties were GOP ballots.
Latino voters in the Rio Grande Valley and all across Texas are engaged, and they overwhelmingly support Hinojosa. Statewide support for Hinojosa was historic – with the most ballots ever cast for a Democratic gubernatorial candidate in history and more than double the votes Beto O’Rourke received in the 2018 primary.
