U.S. Senator Ruben Gallego Endorses Gina Hinojosa for Governor of Texas

Austin, TX — Today, U.S. Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) endorsed Gina Hinojosa in the Democratic primary for Governor of Texas. Senator Gallego and Hinojosa represent a new generation of Democratic leaders – fighters from border states who have never forgotten where they came from and who they’re fighting for.

“Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, Gina Hinojosa is the leader Texas deserves because she’s lived its challenges and knows its promise,” said Senator Gallego. “She’s a fighter who will lower costs for Texas families, expand access to quality healthcare, and stand up for students, teachers, and communities across the state. That purpose and grit are exactly why I’m proud to endorse Gina for Governor.”

“I’m honored to have Senator Gallego’s endorsement. He is someone who knows how to fight and how to win – for affordable housing, good-paying jobs, and communities that have been ignored by politicians more interested in serving their donors than their people,” said Hinojosa. “From Arizona to Texas, families are ready for leaders who will show up for them. We’re in this fight together.”

Senator Gallego, the first Latino to represent Arizona in the U.S. Senate, will be in Houston on Sunday to rally with Hinojosa as the first national Democrat to campaign with her in person. He has been a leading national voice against the Trump administration’s immigration overreach and a champion for working families, veterans, and border communities. His endorsement is the latest in a surge of support for Hinojosa’s campaign heading into the final days before the March 3 primary.

Hinojosa has earned endorsements from the Texas AFL-CIO, SEIU Texas, CWA, the Austin American-Statesman, the Dallas Morning News, the Houston Chronicle, and the San Antonio Express-News, along with elected officials and community leaders from across the state. Recent polling shows the race tightening, with Hinojosa within striking distance of incumbent Governor Greg Abbott as Texans grow increasingly frustrated with rising costs, crumbling infrastructure, and a governor more focused on serving his donors than the people of Texas
