U.S. Senator Chris Murphy Endorses Gina Hinojosa for Governor of Texas

Austin, TX — Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) endorsed Gina Hinojosa in the Democratic primary for Governor of Texas, calling her a fighter who will clean up corruption in Austin and put Texas families first.

“What happens in Texas matters for the whole country, and Gina is the right person for the moment,” said Senator Murphy. “She’s a fighter and a doer – somebody who solves problems. Governor Abbott is corrupt, giving no-bid contracts to his cronies and wasting billions in Texas taxpayer money while electricity prices go up and schools close. Gina is running to make sure the interests of her neighbors are put first. She’s going to clean up a government that has been broken badly by a corrupt governor.”

“Chris Murphy has never been afraid to take on corruption in Washington and fight for our democracy, and he knows a fellow fighter when he sees one,” said Hinojosa. “From Connecticut to Texas to the halls of Congress it’s time to put people over powerful interests and hold corrupt politicians accountable. I’m proud to have Senator Murphy standing with us.”

Murphy, one of the most prominent voices in the Democratic Party on government accountability and fighting for working families, joins a growing list of national leaders backing Hinojosa’s campaign. His endorsement highlights the national spotlight on Governor Abbott’s record of corruption and cronyism as Texans head to the polls.

Hinojosa has earned endorsements from the Texas AFL-CIO, SEIU Texas, the Communications Workers of America, EMILY’s List, and every major Texas newspaper — including the Austin American-Statesman, Dallas Morning News, Houston Chronicle, and San Antonio Express-News. Recent polling shows the race tightening as Texans grow increasingly frustrated with a governor who serves his donors instead of his people.
