NEW TEXAS POLL: Hinojosa Statistically Tied with Abbott

Race tightens as Texans reject Abbott’s corruption and rising costs; Hinojosa winning with independents, Latinos, and young voters

Austin, TX — A new poll conducted by GBAO Strategies released today by Gina Hinojosa’s campaign for Governor shows the race for Texas Governor tightening to a statistical tie. Hinojosa’s support is overwhelming among key groups such as independent voters, Latinos, and Texans under 30 as frustration grows over Greg Abbott’s corruption and skyrocketing costs for working families.

Key Findings:

  • Race tightens to 3 points, continuing the trend from the recent public polls that showed Abbott’s support cratering
  • Independent voters break heavily for Hinojosa, showing a 16 point lead above Abbott
  • Young voters overwhelmingly support Hinojosa: Hinojosa leads Abbott by 29 points with voters under 30
  • Latino vote path to victory: Hinojosa has already captured 57% of the Latino vote before spending a dime on paid media

“Greg Abbott has put a for sale sign on Texas and now people are ready for change,” said Hinojosa. “Texans deserve better than a governor who has sold them out at every turn. The Greg Abbott Corruption Tax is keeping Texans from being able to afford a home, get quality healthcare, and keep our neighborhood schools open. We’re building a movement of working people ready to take our state back, and we’ll be hard at work every day until we win in November. The race is this close because Texans are fed up with paying the price for Abbott’s corruption.”

The poll’s findings align with recent data that shows Texas is shifting. In the Tarrant County Senate District 9 race, union president Taylor Rehmet defeated his Republican opponent by a 14 point margin in a seat Trump carried by 17 points in 2024 — despite being outspent 10 to 1. Recent public polls released by Emerson and the Hobby School at the University of Houston also showed a single digit race. The result demonstrates that when Democrats focus on core economic issues and reject corporate influence, they can win even in traditionally Republican territory.

As noted by a chief strategist for Greg Abbott, Dave Carney, most polls are considered close if they are within the margin of error. The margin of error for the poll is three points.

Hinojosa’s campaign is focused on three core priorities that resonate across the state: making life affordable for working Texans by ending the corruption that drives up costs, holding Abbott accountable for rigging the system for his donors, and strengthening our neighborhood schools by raising teacher pay, stopping the onslaught of standardized tests, and rooting out waste in Abbott’s voucher scam.
