ICYMI: Gina Hinojosa Launches Campaign for Governor, Calls on Texans to “Fight Back” for the Future of the State
Valley native, civil rights advocate, and state legislator calls for new leadership that puts Texas families before insiders and wealthy donors
Brownsville, TX — Last night, in her hometown of Brownsville, State Representative Gina Hinojosa officially launched her campaign for Governor of Texas, calling for new leadership that puts working families before wealthy donors and corrupt political insiders.
Hosted by Blue Texas at the Historic Alonso Building — a place of great significance to Gina in the heart of Brownsville — the event drew more than 200 attendees, including community leaders, educators, and families from across the Rio Grande Valley. The crowd reflected Gina’s broad appeal, attracting not only Democrats but also independents and Republicans from across Cameron County, including local Republican elected officials.
Standing before a packed audience, Hinojosa shared her story as a daughter of the Valley, a mom, and a civil rights advocate and union lawyer who has spent her entire career working for the people.
“I grew up in the Valley where family is everything, where people work hard, and where we look out for one another,” said Gina Hinojosa, candidate for Governor of Texas. “That’s what this campaign is about — standing up for our kids, defending public schools, lowering costs for families, and making sure every Texan has a fair shot.”

Gina Hinojosa is a native Texan, born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. She never planned on running for office, but when her son’s school was threatened for closure by state budget cuts she rallied parents, won a seat on the school board, and kept the school open. But neighborhood schools kept closing across the state because Republican leaders kept diverting money from them, so she ran for the Texas House of Representatives and helped win more than $11 billion in school funding, reduced standardized testing, and gave raises to teachers.
Growing up in the Valley, Gina learned an important early lesson from her grandmother: ”No te dejes.” Fight back. And now she is taking the fight directly to Greg Abbott, who for over a decade has helped the corrupt elite get rich while working Texans struggle to get by.
