Hinojosa Joins Thousands at Rally Against ICE Abuses

Austin, TX — Gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa joined Congressman Joaquin Castro, Congressman Greg Casar, Rep. James Talarico, and thousands of Texans on Saturday for a Stop ICE Rally, condemning federal immigration operations that have killed American citizens and separated children from their families. Hinojosa emphasized the cruelty and corruption behind ICE operations that are terrorizing communities while enriching private prison companies.

“Texas is the only state to detain little children and their parents because Greg Abbott made it happen,” said Hinojosa. “Now we’re seeing the deadly consequences of Abbott’s corruption: American citizens killed by federal agents, law abiding immigrants flown to Texas in violation of court orders, and children fed contaminated food in facilities that exist because Abbott chose profits over people. As governor, I will never offer up Texas as a staging ground for operations that terrorize families and enrich his donors.”

Texas is the only state in the nation that allows children to be detained in immigration facilities, a decision facilitated by Governor Greg Abbott’s cooperation with private prison companies that have donated tens of thousands of dollars to his campaigns.

The rally comes as ICE operations across the country have escalated, including the fatal shootings of American citizens in Minneapolis and the detention of legal refugees who are being flown to Texas facilities and held in deplorable conditions.
